Tokyo Fish Market

Last Wednesday, a Bluefin Tuna sold for a record £250,000 at the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo, Japan. The sale marks the highest price paid for a single fish since the market began keeping records.

The live tuna auctions are barred to the public (the species is endangered); however, Park Hyatt Tokyo is able to gain access to most of the action for guests who request a private fish market tour with the hotel’s Executive Chef in advance. The market is the largest wholesale fish and seafood market in the world – and we advise interested guests be morning people. The market officially opens at 3 a.m. with live auctions beginning a little after 5 – all the action is usually over by 7 each morning!
