The Swiss Cheese Awards are going on this month through Sunday, October 3 in Neuchâtel. Over 400 cheese markers will submit cheeses to be judged by an international panel of specialists and media representatives.  We have a feeling this festival will put even the selection at Murray’s to shame.

The best cheese will be selected from each category and a single Swiss champion will be named. It is safe to say the winner will be the big cheese in Switzerland – at least until the next showdown in 2012.

The judging is open to the public and the winning cheeses will be on display. The festival will also host a farmer’s brunch, cheese making for children, a Confrérie du Gruyère show dairy, milking an imitation cow, alphorn players and bell ringers, a cattle fair, an introduction to Schwingen (Swiss) wrestling, a live broadcast of “Kiosque à musiques” and much more!

Neuchâtel is just a little less than two hours from Zurich via train, and the Cheese Awards offer the perfect temptation to visit. After indulging on all that cheese, have a detox smoothie at Park Hyatt Zurich, their selection was personally designed by Brazilian nutritionist Patricia Teixeira .
