If you’re lucky enough to be in Beijing this weekend be sure and stop by the latest exhibit at the Tokyo Gallery Beijing titled “Genre Crossing”. It is a wonderful, vibrant exhibition by fashion designer Junko Koshino and contemporary artist Go Yayanagi.

Yayanagi’s work has been shown around the world, including a great exhibit in the lobby of the Grand Hyatt Tokyo, and always draws a crowd. He is very talented and has worked across a variety of mediums including oil painting, printmaking, murals for public buildings, and design.

Yayanagi met renowned designer Junko Koshino at the Tokyo Gallery Beijing last June and has since served as part of her design inspiration. Koshino used several of his prints in her shows and events throughout the year – and they are now on display in the place that first began this collaboration!

The exhibition showcases pieces from Koshino’s collection as well as a selection of Yayanagi’s own paintings and prints. Yayanagi’s print works dating from the 1970s have been transformed into textile designs (a nod to Koshino) and have been given a new lease on life in three-dimensional form.

This exhibit just goes to show you never know where you might meet a friend… and find a whole new platform of inspiration!

Are you feeling inspired and want to visit the place where this unique relationship first began and is now showing the results? Be sure to stay at the Park Hyatt Beijing – located in the tallest building on Chang’an Avenue and designed in a modern aesthetic, it is the perfect place to get your creative juices flowing.
