Park Hyatt Istanbul

While Istanbul is famous as the ancient city where East meets West, the General Manager at Park Hyatt Istanbul –Maçka Palas invites food, wine, culture and experiences from all around the world to meet in the hotel’s inviting setting.

The new General Manager, Harun Dursun, is best characterized by his passion for learning and sharing his knowledge with others. While studying Hotel Management in Glasgow, Ireland, Harun became interested in whiskey. Not hard to imagine given the country’s fondness for the liquor. He soon had mastered the beverage and started looking for new ways to expand his palate.

That’s when he turned his attention to wine – a subject that captured his fascination as one can always learn something new. He became the first official Sommelier of Turkey and served as the Park Hyatt Istanbul’s Sommelier and Food and Beverage Director before becoming General Manager.

Even though he is now General Manager, he still retains his passion for wine. Harun shares his expertise with guests on the first Wednesday of each month at a wine tasting in the hotel lobby. His great knowledge and passion for sharing shines through as he explains in great detail various vintages and origins to participants.

The Park Hyatt Istanbul is also referred to fondly as, “the rooms above Armani and Gucci” given its close proximity to the two popular boutiques. Along with his monthly wine tastings, Harun also makes sure the hotel lives up to its nickname. He organizes various fashion shows each month and the collections never fail to live up to their bill. For instance, a display of bikinis on the terrace around the pool attracted 400 glitterati recently.  The definition of ‘fun in the sun!’

The next wine tasting will be Wednesday, September 1, 2010 in the striking art deco lobby.
