cheap eats on nantucket

April 16th, 2009

Nantucket restaurants have always been pricey, we won’t deny that. But this year, the island is giving off a more wallet-friendly vibe – restaurants, hotels, boutiques all have specials for spring 09. Bon appétit!

Brant Point Grill at White Elephant (open April 22) and TOPPER’S at The Wauwinet (open May 13) are starting off this season with a more wallet-friendly vibe. New Executive Chef Frederick Bisaillon at the Brant Point Grill has crafted a few opening promotions for the Brant Point Grill including a Stimulus Steak for $15, a four-course prix fixe meal for $29, and $1 oysters, clams, and appetizer specials every day from 3-11pm.  When TOPPER’S opens in May, Executive Chef David Daniel’s menu will move away from the traditional pre-fixe to an á la carte menu with a classics category that will include choices such as Lobster Pot Pie, Yankee Pot Roast, and Beef Wellington.

Following the trend, American Seasons is offering a $20 entrée menu with regional dishes that include Wagyu Beef Cheeks, Crispy Catfish, and Fried Buttermilk Baby Chicken, available anytime at the bar and in the dining room Sunday through Thursday. The new “American Bistro” menu lists $5 small plates that include Foie Gras Donuts, Buffalo Sliders, Orzo Mac and Cheese, and an “America’s List” features more affordably priced American, Chilean, and Argentinean wines that are available mid-week. Arno’s on Main Street is offering three appetizers for $16.99 from 4-6 pm and a 4-course chef tasting for $25. Children eat free for dinner Sunday through Thursday, and Arno’s will also host free food and wine pairings from 5:30 to 6:30 on Thursday nights.  Centre Street Bistro now has 6 dinner entrées under $20, salad included; Fifty-Six Union has added $14 – $18 entrées to their menu; Kitty Murtagh’s has a new chef and menu, and all dishes are under $20.
