2026 marks the 80th anniversary of GoldenEye, the storied Jamaican property, originally built as the private home of James Bond creator Ian Fleming. In 1946, the author discovered — and fell in love with — the 15-acre site, a former donkey racetrack in the sleepy port town of Orcabessa Bay. Tucked amid secluded beaches and protected lagoons, the land had been overtaken by jungle and tropical blooms. Fleming urgently wired his realtor to secure the property, then sketched his dream villa on a desk blotter. The rest is history: the coastal hideaway, dubbed GoldenEye (a nod to a World War II intelligence operation he’d helped oversee as a commander in British Naval Intelligence) became fertile ground for his imagination, serving as the sanctuary where he wrote all 14 of his bestselling 007 novels.

Eight decades later, that spirit of creativity and intrigue remains at the heart of GoldenEye, where a series of special activities and happenings will mark the milestone anniversary — including a small exhibition in The Fleming Lounge (‘lobby’), featuring photographs culled from the Fleming Estate.

As part of the celebration, the property’s atmospheric poolside bar and rooftop lounge, Sha’Been, will host a “Golden Hour” cocktail hour every Friday night serving Fleming-era cocktails like the classic Martini (always shaken, not stirred), alongside a curated selection of Blackwell Rum. Live performances of Niyabinghi music will further set the mood, with its hypnotic blend of 19th-century gospel and African drumming traditions rooted in Jamaican Rastafarian culture.

Special nature experiences, inspired by Fleming’s personal passions, are also in the works. An avid ornithologist, Fleming drew inspiration from the GoldenEye’s vivid birdlife —in fact, it was Birds of the West Indies, the definitive guide to the Caribbean’s more than 400 different species, written by American ornithologist James Bond, that inspired his famous spy’s name. In tribute to this legacy, and to the property’s rich natural habitat, guests can sign up for biweekly nature tours around the property’s most biodiverse pockets.

For the full GoldenEye experience, guests can book an exclusive package, Ian Fleming’s GoldenEye at 80, which includes four-nights’ accommodation, a guided snorkeling excursion of Fleming Reef (the underwater paradise where the author would explore each morning before settling into his daily ritual of writing 2,000 words per day), an on-property nature tour curated by conservation ecologist Ann Sutton- widely known as Jamaica’s ‘bird whisperer, and a tour of the five-bedroom GoldenEye Villa (pending availability) where the author penned classics like Casino Royale and Live and Let Die.
