UXUA Casa Hotel & Spa

South America • Trancoso, Brazil

A boutique hotel with a bohemian soul and a serious focus on sustainability and community impact, UXUA Casa Hotel & Spa put the remote Brazilian fishing village of Trancoso on the map when it opened in 2009. The passion project of Wilbert Das (the former Creative Director of Diesel) has inspired many copycats but none come even close to this extraordinary eco-retreat’s sense of style.

Newly unveiled in July 2025 is UXUA Maré, located in an oceanfront natural reserve with just three casas, ranging from one- to three-suites. Folded into 15 acres of rainforest and facing pristine Itapororoca beach, the development was designed to blend in with the surrounding flora, including hundreds of fruit trees, an organic vegetable and herb garden. UXUA Maré, which also includes a restored fishing hut that has been transformed into a cozy garden-to-table restaurant, is the latest showcase of UXUA’s unmatched blend of creativity and conservation.

By the Numbers

Opened in 2009; 16 restored traditional houses (casas), ranging from one- to three bedrooms; 9 private villas in the rental pool; 40,000 green aventurine quartz lining the pool; 5 miles – the design ethos that dictates nothing be sourced beyond this radius; 1 100-year-old casa deconstructed, moved 460 miles, and rebuilt
