Tenuta di Murlo
For those who really want their own piece of Italy, Tenuta di Murlo lets one feel as if they are on their own Umbrian estate. The estate sprawls over 18,000 acres of Umbrian countryside dotted with lakes, olive groves and vineyards. The Carabba Tettamanti family has spent the last decade renovating the medieval farmhouses on the estate and there are now eight restored villas with private pools and incredible uninterrupted views, plus the ease of having concierge services and other hotel-like amenities such as breakfast delivery, private chefs, and fresh pizza delivery; daily maid service; activities like truffle hunting, cooking classes, and beekeeping/honey tasting; spa treatments; planned hikes across the estate with picnic lunches; and custom shopping tours. While historical buildings aren’t rare in this part of the world (they do boast a castle that dates back to the 11th century and around 80 historic buildings from farmhouses to mills to a frescoed church and the land has been in the family since the 16th century), Tenuta di Murlo is so special because it’s at once isolated and connected – its massive acreage makes it a pristine world on its own, but it’s also just an hour’s drive from Assisi, Spoleto, Arezzo and Montepulciano.
