We had our first Pie Day here at Alice Marshall. I spent last weekend in Northport, Michigan (we flew into Traverse City which claims to be the Cherry Capital of the country). I picked up some sour cherries, which are virtually impossible to find these days, and brought them back for a pie. (more…)

Honeymooners taking part in Rosewood Mayakobá’s Honeymoon Mayan Romance may eventually need to pull themselves away from all of the private moonlight Tantric Yoga sessions and romantic moonlight couples’ massages (complete with a couple’s massage tutorial)…. While this package does include a daytime snorkeling trip among the Mayan ruins, the Yucatan Peninsula is a marvelous place to explore for more than just a quick dip. The nearby Coba ruin is a thrill for history buffs and the merely curious alike. Considered to have been one of the largest Mayan cities, it is awe-inspiring in its setting of dense forest and shallow lakes. Rent bikes at the entrance and make a day of touring the vast park and snapping photos of the impressive, towering ruins. This ancient marvel is a perfect daytrip getaway!

Endangered animals have always tugged at our heartstrings, but it’s nice to see someone actually doing something about it! Leonardo DiCaprio backs the Save Tigers Now campaign (launched by the WWF) which raises awareness about endangered wild tigers. This organization hopes to double the species by 2022. Banyan Tours & Travels, a tour operator that specializes in luxury travel in India, does its part by educating their staff and working closely with naturalists and guides at Indian parks.

Reggae lovers and Rastafari-fans should trek downtown to Rockefeller Park for roots reggae artist Burning Spear’s free concert tonight at 7pm. The living legend (also known as Winston Rodney) was said to have gotten his start in the music business with a little help from Bob Marley, and was signed with Island Records before later starting his own label. Fun Fact: This week Burning Spear and Island Records, which was founded by Chris Blackwell who is also founder of Island Outpost, the Jamaican resort group, were both inducted into Jamaica’s music Hall of Fame by the Jamaica Association of Vintage Artistes and Affiliates (JAVAA).
